Competitive Format

The Competitive Bracket is intended for experienced players seeking a more competitive tournament experience.

Format:

  • 4 guaranteed round-robin games per team

  • Single-game matches during round robin

  • Scores recorded to determine seeding for the playoff portion of the tournament

  • Top 8 teams advance to playoffs

Playoff Format:

  • Single-elimination bracket

  • All playoff matches are best 2 out of 3 games

Playoff Matchups:

  • #1 vs #8

  • #4 vs #5

  • #3 vs #6

  • #2 vs #7

Seeding rewards teams for their performance during round-robin play, with higher-seeded teams matched against lower-seeded teams in the opening round. This makes every round-robin game - and every point - count!

Seeding Criteria

Our goal is for every team to play the same number of round-robin games. If all teams complete the same number of games, seeding will be determined by:

  1. Match record (wins/losses), then by

  2. Point differential

If teams do not complete the same number of round-robin games, seeding will instead be determined by:

  1. Win percentage (wins ÷ total games played × 100)

  2. Average point differential per game [(total points scored − total points allowed) ÷ games played]

If teams remain tied after the applicable criteria, a coin flip will determine seeding.

Guiding Principles Behind the Format

When evaluating tournament structures, we prioritized:

  • Guaranteed value for every registration fee

  • At least 4 games for every team

  • A playoff format that rewards strong performance

  • A schedule that can reasonably conclude by 6:00 PM

  • Simple rules that are easy for participants to understand

This format balances fairness, competitiveness, and logistics while providing a positive experience for all participants.
